      @@healerondemand3464 When you are ready, I recommend to go to a guitar store rather than buy site unseen- try a bunch out in your price range. I've found some excellent guitars that didn't have a name brand that I either bought for students or kept myself. If you have to buy sight unseen however, your best bet is a Yamaha guitar. Very consistent, good price and never saw a bad one. But it sounds like you are getting good mileage out of the one you have.

    I'm 56 and have been putzing around on the guitar for decades but never gave myself the time to learn how to play and understand what I was playing. This is the first guitar lesson video I came across and I'm glad I did. It was frustrating to play at first. I had to keep pausing the video. Then after about 15 minutes of stops and starts my fingers finally knew where to go and it felt great. Like learning a new language. I played nonstop for almost an hour. My arthritic knuckles are aching but it was worth it. Thanks for the video.

      @@Luvurselffirst Hi Mira, yes, from one vid to the next you'll get a lot of variations with how much is included in the teaching. String numbers are important because it's the main reference to what strings we are plucking. Some people will call out the notes instead of the strings (E,B, G, D, A, E) but that's not a good method since there's more than just one way to tune a guitar and, if you use a capo.. what then? Hi Jenna, Thank you for taking the lessons here and the kind words! Fingerpicking... not so hard right? I guess when you hear it and don't know how it's done, it sounds scary hard. But the hard part is the chords... so this is going to just be a lot of fun for you. The thumb is your basic rhythm (back and forth between two strings) and the rest of the fingers fills it out. Get good on the thumb in good rhythm and it's all downhill from there. Please keep me posted with your progress as I'm curious to hear how it's going for someone who has guitar experience.. I am always excited to help when I see someone taking their guitar playing seriously, asking a lot of really good questions and trying different things (actually quite impressed that you were using your pinky at this point- your work around was very creative!). The money tip you gave here is extraordinary... many many big THANKS!!! And if you are interested, any time you want to do a free live 1 on 1 lesson... @@AcousticGuitarVideosLessons Hi Bob☺ I must admit that I instantly felt the pressure building inside me when you offered me a free zoom lesson, I got a little scared tbh🤣. But I would of course love to do it and I'm honored by your offer. May I suggest that I work for one more week especially with my chord change from Dsus2 to A5 because I think a lesson would benefit me more if I can in a less stuttering way play through the melody with all the chord changes before we do a lesson. So if the offer still stands I'll email you when June comes and you'll decide when it suits your time schedule. My timezone here is Central European summer time (+1 hour from London) but I will of course go out of my way to adapt to whatever day and time that's the most convenient for you, Sir. @@RoyHodgson97 Hey Roy, there's absolutely no rush with this and 0 pressure!! May I suggest that you at least start the follow up course because that's going to really help you with the changing of the chords. In the follow up we will play "That Song" at all different speeds together with a metronome and start with the first easy D chord. My email again is acousticguitarvideos@gmail.com.. Let me at least get you started with that course as that's supposed to be used for the work that you are doing now, only I think it will be easier if we are doing it together. I am thrilled that you are diligent with this all and have no doubt that you're just going to keep getting better and better. Hi Bob, I've made my own cheat version of this to kinda make it easier for myself and for the future get some training with my little finger: - I use my little finger to press the 6th string because I was struggling to get my ring finger there, so when I go from Em to G I take my ring finger off of the 4th string and then I press my little finger down on the 6th. This actually gives me "a lot" of extra time and makes it less stressful and the chord change is much more seamless compared to the other chord changes and I think as a bonus I get to use my little finger preparing it for the future. After doing that for a few hours my little finger isn't "dead" anymore and I can actually use it to press down on a string. Is this a dumb idea you think? If it is and you tell me this will make a mess of my future progress I'll definitely stop doing it. What's your verdict, Sir?

    • @AcousticGuitarVideosLessons
      @AcousticGuitarVideosLessons Місяць тому

      Hey Roy, thank you for taking the lessons here and working on the song! I appreciate your detailed comment here as I now know exactly what you are doing. Here's something that I will tell you about future fingerpicking- you will have to be ready to play many of the same chord shapes using different fingers because, when we start to add melody notes, we will need to find the easiest way to get to them while holding down the rhythm at the same time. For example, let's say in this song a melody C note (1 fret up on the 2nd string) needed to be played with that G Chord. If you try playing the low G note 6th string and the C note at string 2 (1st fret, you will see that the pinky would be a good choice for fretting string 6 (3 frets up) (index finger on C). So I guess what I'm saying is, there's NO SET RULE for what fingers to use for a chord and it's determined by your skill level and what's coming next. The idea is to play the song as best you can according to your skills. But as soon as you go to another song, be prepared to play the same chords with other fingers as you might not be able to smoothly get to the next measure using a stock formula for each chord. I typically use 3 or 4 different fingerings for a G chord- two of them use the ring finger 6th string and two use the middle finger. I have used my pinky when I needed my index or other fingers to play a melody part. For this song and for the G Chord, you don't have to press down on the 5th string (because we are not plucking it). I debated on whether or not to include the 5th string 2 frets up.. reason to keep it down is we are almost at that point forming a full G chord (that you can strum). The final note missing for a full standard G chord is your pinky 3 frets up on string 1. This standard full G chord would be : 3 frets up with ring finger 6th string 2 frets up with middle finger 5th string 3 frets up with pinky 1st string And another way to finger a standard G chord would be 3 frets up with middle finger 6th string 2 frets up with index finger 5th string 3 frets up with ring finger 1st string By forming either, you can then strum through all 6 strings and play a G chord. So I hope you read over this (with guitar in hand) and try what I am showing you. All this stuff is in your "not to distant future" (as you are moving ahead very well with this!) , but for this song, if you want to do it with the pinky or eliminate the 5th string (because we are not plucking it) and play the 6th string with ring or index finger, I leave that to your comfortability. bob

      @@AcousticGuitarVideosLessons Thank you for a great response, Bob, I really appreciate it. This is very interesting and I'm really happy that there are some freedoms of approach here as in optional ways to get to the same end result. I'll keep doing 6th string with my pinkie then, and my middle finger stays on the 5th because it feels very natural and on me it has sort of a stabilizing effect and we need it for the Em anyway so I see no need to not press it. As to your full G chords there; I'm sitting here trying them both and they're hard chords for a noob🤣.If I can choose I'll definitely pick the latter one because getting my pinkie up to the 1st is really hard. In this melody this change from Em to G is the easiest one, now I'm gonna start work more with the hardest, for me at least; that is the change from Dsus2 to A5. ☺

      @@RoyHodgson97 Hi Roy, I'm so glad you are investigating, asking questions and learning about your strengths and weaknesses- we all have them.. even the very best players. I injured my hand years ago in the studio (pressing too hard and heard a snap). So I've had to compensate.. pinky is working now but not 100%. At this point for you, just concern yourself with this song and make it your own (which sounds like what you are doing). And just to be playing with your pinky at this point is quite an achievement as that's the most uncoordinated of all the fingers. I see you are on lesson 9 and that means 3 more to go. Please take your time but after you are finished there's a follow up course that I have on my website you can take. Just let me know how it's going.. You are doing fantastic!! 😃🎸 !!

    • @AcousticGuitarVideosLessons
      @AcousticGuitarVideosLessons Місяць тому

      Hi HealerOnDemand, Most commonly the A D and E chord progression for the blues. Coming in 2nd for blues would be the E A and B. For campfire music know your G C and D. All these progressions are also called 1-4-5 with the first chord of each as the 1, the second chord the 4 and the third the 5. Won't get into the details why (unless you really must know 😎). Wishing you all the best and hope this lesson helped with playing chords.. bob
